Lifetime Clubfitting Good for 18 Years!

February 21st, 2019

Book YOUR Lifetime Clubfitting Here! Well, this D’Lance Golf Performance Center lifetime clubfitting is still good after 18 years!  When Ric came to us in 2001, our fitting process was great but only with the tools we had available at the time.  No TrackMan.  No interchangeable heads and shafts.  We did our very best on the fitting and certainly the build was top notch. Well, 18 years later, Ric is still hitting his D’Lance Classic irons with Rifle shafts great!  Woods..not so much.  His driver looks like my 3 wood!  Well we are excited to work with Ric again to see what is next in his golf bag!  Stay tuned and we will give you an update! The Problem With Testing Stock Driver Shafts

February 18th, 2019

Ok, I admit it, I am biased.  But so should you be!  Getting a driver fitting at a box store is an adventure in what manufacturers drivers are available and if there are any custom shaft options.  And, I love Tony and the crew at MyGolfSpy to death but I think consumers are learning that testing stock driver shafts will give you a very mixed bag of results.  Here are some of the issues with testing off-the-rack stock driver shafts and what to do about it: See my comments on driver fitting in Golf Digest here… Stock Driver Lengths First off, there are no standard lengths, except maybe for women!  We see them as short as 44.5″ and as long as 45.75″.  Hard to do a comparison in distance and consistency of contact with that much length difference.  We totally advocate shorter driver shafts (44.5″ or less) in order to give you more consistent contact and higher smash factor.  This ultimately will create tighter shot dispersion and more distance. Stock Shaft Weights This is little better but not much.  For the “average” golfer (whatever that is) the typical driver shaft weight will be 45 grams for women and 55 grams... Read More

Get More Distance Off the Tee and Drop Strokes Off Your Game!

February 14th, 2019

It’s no secret that if you get more distance off the tee you will drop strokes off your game.  Pretty simple.  If you are closer to the green on your approach shots, you can hit more greens and shave 1-3 strokes off your game!  That’s not me talking.  That is Callaway and TrackMan research. So how do you do it?  I did a series of blogs a couple of years ago talking about the key factors in getting more distance off the tee.  (See that blog intro here).  As an update to that series, here are my thoughts on what will help you get that extra 10-20 yards off the tee: Book Your Driver Fitting Here! Change Your Attack Angle It is a fact that if you can launch the ball higher off the tee with less spin, you will get more carry distance and more roll-out.  Less than 25% of our golfers have positive attack angles off the tee.  A couple of quick changes in set-up and you are on your way!  I know.  I used to be -3 degrees and now I am +2. It can be done.  And if you cannot change your attack angle, we have... Read More

What 2019 Driver Head Appeals to You?

February 7th, 2019

So, what 2019 driver head appeals to YOU? When selecting a club head, the driver head has to look good to your eye, sound good to your ear and feel good in your hands.  This is what we call the “soft side” of the fitting process but it is very important.  I cannot tell you how many times I have heard golfers tell me something like, “that just sounds terrible,” or “Nope, not playing a blue driver head.”. Book  Your Driver Fitting NOW! Size While most drivers these days are 460cc in volume, they can have a distinctly different look based upon their design.  The Srixon Z585, for example, will have a longer look from front to back than the Srixon Z785.  By design, that takes the center of gravity back which results in a higher launching head.  Same thing with the TaylorMade M6 (longer front to back for higher launch) versus the TaylorMade M5. There are a few companies that still offer a slightly smaller 435cc or 440cc head like TaylorMade M5 Tour 435cc. Finish and Color I remember when the now-famous “white” driver heads hit the market.  You either loved ’em or hated ’em.  Same with all of... Read More

PXG 0811X Gen 2 Drivers, Woods and Hybrids!

January 17th, 2019

PXG 0811X Gen 2 Drivers, Woods and Hybrids are in and the early results are pretty darn good.  When we went through the overview with PXG a couple of weeks ago, we were impressed with the fact that not only has the ball speed improved, but the MOI (forgiveness) has improved as well.  And, even better, the pricing is now VERY competitive with the new drivers coming out from other major OEM’s like Callaway and TaylorMade. The PXG 0811 X is available in 9, 10.5 and 12 degree lofts.  The hosel adjustments allow the lofts to be modified by +/- 1.5 degrees.  In addition, the PXG adapter is the only one on the market that can adjust the lie angle 3 degrees flat which is a HUGE advantage in fitting shorter golfers. The PXG 0811 XF is the absolute highest MOI driver on the market.  This means the forgiveness factor on off-center hits is dramatically improved!  In our preliminary testing, the spin rates are down 200-300 rpm from the original X models and smash factors are consistently in the 1.48-1.50 range….excellent! As for the fairway woods and hybrids, we will be putting them to the test this week.  Stay tuned!!... Read More

New Aerotech SteelFiber FC Shafts

January 15th, 2019

New Aerotech SteelFiber FC Shafts Aerotech SteelFiber FC shafts are the latest in composite shaft innovation by Aerotech.   FC stands for “Flight Control” meaning players will experience higher ball flight in their longer irons and mid to low-mid flight in the shorter irons versus the original SteelFiber irons.  The original models in the 95 and 110 gram weights have been solid performers on the PGA and Champions Tour.  More recently, the lighter weight i70 and i80 models have been making big strides on the LPGA tour.  These new shafts will give players the feel of a graphite shaft but the heavier weight and higher launch they desire in their games. Sign up for a fitting now to see which  Aerotech shaft best fits your swing. Models Available The first two models available are the SteelFiber fc 90 and the SteelFiber fc 115.  Both models are available in the parallel tip version (.370″) and the CW (constant weight) taper tip (.355″) model.    The new fc 70 and fc 80 are now available in parallel tip (.370″). Comparison to original SteelFiber Models In our static testing, the new FC 90 and FC 115 test out with slightly softer tips and slightly stiffer... Read More

2019 Golf Equipment Changes in Your Bag

January 7th, 2019

As we look forward this year, it is time to take a look at your 2019 golf equipment changes in your bag.  We always need to look at our golf game and make adjustments to our equipment to get the absolute most out of what we bring to the course.  So here are a few of our suggestions: Get Fit for the Right Equipment If you have not been through a professional fitting, make 2019 your year to do so!  Understanding the dynamics of your swing (tempo, transition, release point) and how it affects shaft and head selection is key to improved performance! Take advantage of our “Lifetime Fitting” and get fit! Select the “pain points” in your bag and get those fixed first! See our thoughts below. Hit more Fairways From an equipment standpoint, every company is focusing on distance and forgiveness.  But for that average golfer, hitting more fairways is key to lower scores and more fun.  Here are our suggestions: Play a shorter driver (trust us, you will NOT lose distance) Get fitted with the right shaft (proper weight, flex and swing weight).  Learn More Use your fairway wood or hybrid for those tight fairways. Tour Edge Exotics EXS Driver

December 12th, 2018

The new Tour Edge Exotics EXS Driver is a HUGE improvement over their previous models in several ways.  And this great driver is priced right at $299.99! Book your fitting to see if this driver is right for YOU! Why You Should NEVER Buy a Driver Off-the-Rack! Ball Speed In our testing, we  look at smash factor (Ball speed divided by Club Speed) to see the “hotness” factor of the head.  In our testing with other Tour Edge drivers, even the Xj1, we had a hard time getting close to the proverbial 1.50.  Not so with the EXS.  Now, mind you, smash factor is also determined by how well you are hitting the sweet spot and how well the shaft is working for you.  That is why we use our Fitting Wizard to dial you in to the proper shaft length, weight, flex, and tip profile.  With the properly fitted shaft, we consistently have seen smash factors in the 1.49-1.51 range, which creates the highest ball speed, regardless of club speed. Look, Sound and Feel One of the things we notice in our fittings is the “soft side”, i.e. look, sound and feel.  Previous EX models of the Tour Edge... Read More

Miura MB001 and CB57 Irons are Back!

November 15th, 2018

The iconic and classic Miura MB001 and CB57 irons are back for a limited time! Schedule your fitting here The MB001 is probably the most popular blade model Miura has produced, next to the classic “baby blade”.  The pure feel of the ball coming off the face of these irons is absolutely incredible.  The MB001 design is the result of years of study and careful consideration of iron performance by the Miura family. Yoshitaka Miura, elder son of founder Katsuhiro Miura and a club-grinding expert who learned under his father, led the project. He had the advice of his brother Shinei, who supervises forging operations at the company’s factory and forge in Himeji, Japan, and of course his father. The Miura CB57 is one of the best cavity back models produced by Miura.  Very slightly larger than the MB001, the CB57 provides more forgiveness on off-center hits. These irons are in very limited supply in the United States and will not be replaced.  So, if you are already playing one of these beautiful irons, get another set, or two!  If you have not played them, you owe it to yourself to try them out!
