Single Length Iron Sets – Our Test

April 5th, 2016

Single length iron sets have come and gone in golf over the last 50 years but Bryson DeChambeau is making another statement for this unique approach.  Bryson is definitely a “student of the game” and plays extremely well with the set he has built for himself.  Now, heading into the Masters, Cobra is building him a set for competition.  As a club fitter and club builder, this is not a difficult build but it would be a lot easier if there were heads available in a constant weight.  There is a long thread on GolfWRX that you can read and see a lot of different approaches to this concept as well as a thread on Tom Wishon’s approach. As we build the clubs to a constant length, we like to keep the flex of the shaft and the swing weight constant as well.  This gives each club a consistent feel.  Club head manufacturers currently make club head weights heavier as the club length gets shorter to create a consistent swing weight.  The normal progression is 7 grams.  So, a 4 iron can weigh roughly 244 grams while a sand wedge will weigh approximately 300 grams.  There are several other challenges... Is Clubfitting More Science or Art?

March 7th, 2016

Is clubfitting more science or art?  I have read and heard an awful lot about clubfitting being truly an art.  While I agree that experience of fitting a wide variety of golfers is key, I totally believe we can use more science to provide a better fit and performance for our customers.  There are great clubfitters that rely on visual shape of the golf shot and feedback from their customer.  They put clubs in their golfer’s hands that, based upon their experience, should give a predictable result.  If the ball flight is not acceptable, they try a different head or shaft or combination of the two.  The main difference between that artful fitter and today’s modern fitter is that there is much more technology available to determine the optimum head and shaft combination to improve your performance!  There are also more club builders that are doing the precise building that makes golf clubs perform to the high expectations of their customers.  When I started D’Lance Golf almost 20 years ago, we did not have NEAR the sophisticated shaft analyzers, ball flight monitors, and high speed video cameras we have today.  This technology allows us to know more about a golfer’s... D’Lance Golf Makes Mizuno Golf Top 100 Clubfitter List…Again

March 1st, 2016

We are very proud to be a Mizuno Golf Top 100 Clubfitter…again!  As everyone who has been through a fitting with us knows, we really are brand agnostic as that truly is the best way to get our customers to pick heads that look good, sound good and feel great in their hands.  Mizuno has done an awesome job in the last several years creating great irons, hybrids, wedges, drivers and fairway woods that gives our customers some great options.  Mizuno ultimately ends up in the top three of our customer’s selections.  And it can’t just be us.  Mizuno products, especially their irons, have out-performed a lot of other manufacturer’s in the annual Golf Digest Equipment Hot List.  Again, we are honored to be a part of this list. Lady Golfer Driver Fitting Gets Great Results!

December 16th, 2015

We did a driver fitting on a veteran lady golfer who told us that for many years she did not like using a driver.  Once she decided to try a driver, she kept buying different heads with different shaft combinations and over the years accumulated drivers that she couldn’t use.  After speaking with folks who had been fit by D’Lance she decided to try it out.  She admitted to us that the fitting process was way more in depth than any other fitting she had experienced and after picking up her new custom fit driver, she said it only took a few rounds before she saw the difference.  While she is already an exceptional golfer, this time she said the driver was more consistent through every round.  She new exactly where the ball would land every time and how much yardage she would get out of her driver.  She was so happy that she came back in and got fitted for her irons.  It is testimonies like these that continue to prove to us and avid golfers that a Custom Club Fitting is so important for your game and not just your game, but for better enjoyment of Golf.  Thanks... Tell us your 2015 Hole-in-One Story!

December 6th, 2015

Ok.  I admit to only one hole-in-one in my life and it was with a great group of friends on a “road trip”.  Seven iron, 182 yards with a stiff tail wind at Coyote del  Malpais in Grants, New Mexico.  The guy that got me started in the custom fitting and club building business, Stu Calder, had seven!  On his 70th birthday, his sister got him a custom license plate that said “7 Aces”.  He promptly went out that very day and got his 8th! I heard of a couple great ones this year.  Victor Minovich got one on the 13th at Foothills Golf Club and went on to win the The Senior Club Championship that day!  Stacy Arnold got one at Whistling Straights.  Let me know if you got one this year and give me the club, hole, distance and the course you were playing.  You never know.  Instead of you buying a round for the clubhouse, you may get a little spiff from D’Lance Golf Performance Center! Another Happy Custom Fit Golfer Checks In

October 19th, 2015

Just checking in to say thanks again for the great work you and PJ did for me with my clubs. Got out to play 9 holes a couple times recently. Shot a 37 at Park Hill and a 42 at Common Ground. Easily the best golf I’ve ever played. My handicap is dropping and I’m having lots of fun. So much easier to stay in the flow with clubs that match my swing. Chris S., Denver, CO – 16 Hcp.

Looks like all the hard work (and a little help from clubs fit to her swing) paid off for Jill in winning the 2015 CWGA Senior Stroke Play Championship!  Jill played great over the two day tournament at Red Rocks Country Club, shooting an 8-over 152.  In fact Jill played well enough to place second in net score as well.  Congratulations Jill!

Spencer Painton Qualifies for 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship

July 15th, 2015

Posting one of the lowest scores in U.S. Amateur Championship qualifying this year, Spencer Painton shot an 8-under 136 at the Columbine Country Club in Columbine Valley, CO.  This is the latest in a string of great golf for Spencer.  He will be entering his Sophomore year at Kansas University this fall.  Spencer is following up on a great junior golf career where he led Regis Jesuit to 3 straight 5A Colorado high school championships and also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships in 2013. The U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, IL on August 17-23, 2015.  Best of luck to a great golfer and a fine young man!
