WITB Matt McCarty – 2024 Black Desert Championship

Matt McCarty Winners WITB

WITB for Matt McCarty, winner of his first PGA Tour event at the Black Desert Championship.  Leading wire-wire, Matt was cruising until a funky three putt but got it back together to win by three strokes.  Strong off the tee, Matt had 3 eagles, 23 birdies, 40 pars and 6 bogeys for the tournament.

Matt took a three stroke lead into the final round and even drove the 14th green and sunk his eagle putt.  The lefty was just promoted from the Korn Ferry Tour and wins his first PGA Tour Event…awesome!

Winning WITB for Matt McCarty, Black Desert Championship 2024

With the help of PGA Tour, Golf Digest, and Golf WRX, we examine McCarty’s winning equipment.

  • Driver: Ping G 430 LST 10.5* with Fujikura Ventus Blue 6X shaft.  Matt Averaged 299 yards and hit 72.3% of fairways!
  • Fairways. Matt played a Ping G410 14.5 degree 3 wood with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7X shaft, and a Ping G430 Max 21 degree 7 wood with a Ventus Blaxk 8X shaft.  Most strong players will choose a lower lofted hybrid or a 5 or 7 wood after the longer fairway wood.
  • Irons: Matt played the Ping Blueprint S (cavity back) irons, 4-PW with True Temper Dynamic Gold 120 X-100 shafts.  These shafts are the newest lighter weight Dynamic Gold shafts that still have the same trajectory and spin as the original DG X-100.
  • Wedges: Sticking with Ping, Matt plays a nice complement of Ping Glide Forged Pro wedges, 50-10, 54-10 and 60-06 all with the True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 shafts.  These shafts are heavier and will play softer than the DG 120 shafts he has in his irons.
  • Putter: Matt played a Ping PLD Custom Tyne C with a center shaft.  Matt averaged 28.3 putts per round!  Not bad, young man!
