Our Testers Results
All of our testers have seen increases in ball speed of 2-3 mph versus their custom-fit drivers (M3, Roque SZ, Cobra F8+). Smash factors were about the same and spin was slightly (150 rpm) lower. Sound and feel were what we have expected from a Titleist driver…nice! Bottom line is 4-8 yards more distance on average due to more consistent launch angles, lower spin. Shot dispersion was roughly 15% tighter with the TS3.
Personal Experience
For years Titleist has not necessarily marketed to the golfer looking for more distance, but gave the head a more traditional look and feel while not adding any length or lighter weight. After personally getting fit for the new Titleist TS Driver, I can confidently tell you they designed the thinnest titanium crown in any driver which allows the weight to be shifted lower and deeper. It also has a much thinner face to promote faster ball speed. I can see why so many Tour Pro’s have been so excited about this Driver.
I have been playing the Taylormade M3 driver since February and recently put a TPT 16 MKP-MT-SW shaft in it, which is the best shaft I have ever played with (see our TPT Blog Post). I was not unsatisfied with the results by any means, however, my Titleist rep called me last month and said he wanted to get me into their new driver. Now, I have never been a huge fan of the Titleist wood line but have always enjoyed their irons. I said yes, because I like and respect my rep so much, not ever thinking it would go in my bag.
Four weeks later it is staying in my bag. I absolutely love the feel and look of the new TS3 Driver. I tried the TS2 as well, but it spun a little too much for me and I liked the more compact look of the TS3. (They are both 460CC). The test showed M3 vs. TS3 with the same shafts and specs, I was 5.5 mph faster off the face and 11 yards more carry. It honestly feels like two completely separate companies made the 917 vs TS3. I have been more than happy with the results and because of that, I have fit more than 20 people into the new head and it hasn’t even released to the public yet. I believe Titleist hit a home run with this Driver and I am excited to sell it and see customers achieve the same results I have!
