EvenFlow Riptide X Series Shafts – MX and LX Offer Excellent Stability and Control.

Design

The new Riptide X series shafts are the lowest torque wood shafts in the Project X line. Riptide X shafts complement this ultra-low torque design with two unique bend profiles that are optimized for maximum feel—providing two extremely stable shafts without feeling harsh.

These shafts have traditional balance points so they will play heavier in a driver at standard length.  Even though they are advertised as low-torque, our measurements show a little higher torque which is what accounts for the smoother feel.

MX Model

This is the mid-launch version of the Riptide X series.  Our static testing shows a very firm tip section because of the 40 ton fiber in the bottom 20 inches of the shaft.  Even so, launch is mid to low-mid with a very solid feel from top of the swing through impact.

Available in 60 (5.5, 6.6, 6.5, TX), 70 (5.5, 6.0, 6.5, TX) and 80 (TX) gram weights and flexes.  Theses shafts will play true to their flex designations.  The heavier and stiffer shafts will have a firmer feel at impact.

LX Model

The lower launch version offers a little softer feel in the mid-section of the shaft but extremely firm butt and tip sections.  This creates the lower trajectory and lower spin desired by stronger players.

Available in 60 (5.5, 6.6, 6.5, TX), 70 (5.5, 6.0, 6.5, TX) and 80 (TX) gram weights and flexes.  These shafts will play almost a flex stiffer than their flex designations (5.5 will play like a 6.5).

Our Take

The MX is  a great shaft for moderate to aggressive swings.  Smoother swings will still feel that the shaft is a bit too stiff.  The LX is a great shaft for “hitters” desiring a lower launch but still with good feel at impact.
