Golf Shafts in the News
February, 2012

MATRIX KUJOH

(notice how the color changes in the light!)

MATRIX is introducing the new KUJOH line of shafts that is replacing the popular STUDIO model.  The KUJOH is a much more stable shaft with improved tipping design across all weight classes to allow club builders greater flexibility in building to tighter specifications.  Available in iron, hybrid and wood shafts. This shaft is only available through authorized MATRIX dealers.  Shafts will start shipping the end of February.

KBS Tour Custom

KBS is now offering their tour proven KBS Tour shafts in three exciting finishes:  White, Black and Satin.  The satin finish was made popular in the KBS C-Taper line of shafts.  Same great shafts now fashionably cool! Shafts will start shipping the end of February.

Grafalloy, PFC Exclusive and True Temper

Just finished profiling all of the new shafts from True Temper, including the Grafalloy Black, Blackbird and the new ProLaunch SC (Speed Coat) series.  Some great new shafts!

Also tested the new light weight Project X PXi steel iron shaft.  Will be an awesome shaft for those that want the Project X shaft performance (ball flight and feel) but in a lighter weight shaft.

UST Mamiya :

ProForce VTS (Variable Torque System)

This is the fourth generation of the UST Proforce design and this is by far the best.  These shafts are a mid-launch, mid tip stiff shaft with a feel that is determined by the torque of the shaft.  From a low of 2.5 to a high of 5.5 degrees, these shafts should have a fit for almost any player.  Available in 55 to 95 gram wood and 75, 85 and 100 gram hybrid shafts.

We have evaluated the wood shafts with our 22 point static tests and, as advertised, the shafts are extremely consistent from the Black (low torque), Silver (mid-torque) and Red (high-torque).  In our dynamic testing on TrackMan, there is very little difference in spin and launch angle between the shaft models.  The major difference is in the feel of the shaft which can create more confidence for those players that can actually feel the difference. For example, I like a firm but not boardy feel so the Silver feels the best to me.  With that shaft I feel like I can swing aggressively and get the most out of the VTS Silver 7S.  I feel like I would have to swing too hard to make the Black work for me.  The Red feels a little to "mushy" for my taste and I would probably end up swinging a little slower thinking I would lose the ball left or right.  Very interesting fitting concept from UST!  Looking forward to putting this in play in our fitting system.

Talamonti Wood and Hybrid Shafts

We are conituously looking for products, especially shafts, that offer our golfers unique design and performance attributes.  Late this summer I was contacted by Phil Talamonti and invited to take a look at his shafts.  We brought in several wood and iron shafts to put through our extensive static and dynamic testing process.  Phil said I would be pleasantly surprised and I was!  For a mid price point shaft, these shafts perform as well or better than shafts costing twice as much.  The quality is on par with the best shafts in the world in terms of consistency of design.  Launch is mid and spin is low mid compared to $450 shafts.  These shafts are available in 60 and 70 gram wood shafts, and 85 and 100 gram hybrid shafts.  A great option for every player!

What are the Tour Players Using?...

Every week during the season we get a peek in the bag of what the tour players are using for both heads and the shafts.  Every golfer is different, even on the professional tours.  More...

True Temper Project X Monaco prototype shafts

The shafts that won The Open Championship!

True Temper is making a limited run of these shafts available through True Temper Performance Fitting Centers.  These shafts are individually flighted so each iron from 3-PW has its own unique ball flight.  Obviously Darren Clarke liked them enough to win The Open.  If you would like to reserve a set for yourself, contact us at info@dlancegolf.com or 303-730-2717.  These shafts are in stock NOW.  We prefer to install these shafts in our performance studio but we have been authorized by True Temper to sell them as sets for $320.00 US.  Our installed price is $80 per club.

What's New for 2012....

Here are a few of the shafts to look for in 2012:

True Temper:

Dynalite Gold XP -

Made popular in the Mizuno irons as one of their shaft options, this light weight, high launch shaft will be a favorite for golfer's seeking a slightly lighter weight and a little higher launch than the traditional Dynamic Gold shafts.

Grafalloy:

Blackbird -  Offered in the Cobra Long Tom 4 foot driver, this is a pretty impressive shaft!  As club lengths get longer, a golf shaft needs to play stiffer in the butt section to control accuracy.  Well, this shaft does exactly that.  Becuse it plays so stiff, Grafalloy does not recommend putting this shaft in any driver that is less than 46 inches long. What is even more impressive is that this shaft is that stiff yet weighs only 50 grams.  This shaft is definitley soft in the tip section but feels great due to its higher torque rating.

Fujikura:

Blur - Lightweight shaft using Textreme fibers and designed using Fujikura's ENSO high-speed digital camera fitting system. We have tested this shaft in our lab and it is the real deal!

Look for our Shaft Test Results in February for all the new shafts we can get our hands on for 2011!

KBS Steel shafts finally topped the leaderboard at the World Golf Championships at Doral.  The winner used the KBS Tour X-Flex shafts in his irons en route to a 4 stroke victory over 68 of the best players on tour.  The winner hit 69.4% GIR (T2) and had 23 total birdies (1st).  This marked the champions first win in 2 years.  D'Lance Golf uses KBS Steel shafts in its fitting center primarily because of the consistency of the shafts and flexibility in fitting golfers of a variety of abilities.

True Temper Domination Continues:

Delivering accuracy and consistency, Dynamic Gold shafts by True Temper scored double victories for the second weekend in a row. True Temper won both the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA TOUR and the Panama Claro Championship on the Nationwide Tour.

The Phoenix Open champion played Dynamic Gold shafts to capture his second career PGA TOUR victory and moved into sixth-place in the FedEx Cup standings. Overall, True Temper dominated the shaft count at the desert tournament with 125 sets in play and was played by nine of the top 10 finishers.

Meanwhile, this week's Nationwide Tour winner trusted Dynamic Gold shafts in his irons to win the Panama Claro Championship, his fourth Nationwide Tour victory.

Featuring a high-flex, tour weight design, Dynamic Gold steel shafts are the top-selling steel shaft in golf and are preferred by skilled players seeking a low, penetrating ball flight. True Temper’s Project X shaft is another successful brand which is well-known a providing a dedicated constant taper rate per inch for each shaft in the set. Longer taper rate results in more energy transfer to the ball and the ball gets up faster and flattens out for a penetrating trajectory. Dynamic Gold shafts are available in tapered and parallel irons and parallel woods, while Project X steel shafts are available in tapered and parallel irons.
