Can I keep my old shaft? That is the question…

The season is just picking up, even though there is still snow on the ground.  Many folks are gearing up mentally and physically for the upcoming 2014 Golf Season.  The question we get almost every day in the beginning of the season is “if I buy a new club, can you put my old shaft into the new head.”  The answer is not quite a s simple as “yes” or “no”.  When we complete a fitting and build a set or a single club based on the fitting information, we build that club based on the weight of the club, shaft, length, grip weight…all with your fitted swing weight and flex in mind.  The only way to know if we can put your old fitted shaft into a new head it to pull the shaft, weight the head and test the new head with the old shaft.  The head may be heavier or lighter, the hosel dimensions may be off which could cause a length issue.  We may have to add or remove weight to get to your recommended swing weight.  Also, we trim the tips of shafts during the custom building process to get to the recommended flex and swing weight of the shaft.  This could change with a new head as well.  We truly understand that desire to have the latest and greatest equipment and we also understand the time and money spent on your golf game, so if you have the need to buy new we will try to make the old shaft work if we can.
